Can parrots eat plain yogurt (unsweetened)?
Treat
Only tiny occasional amounts for parrots; plain and unsweetened only.
Usually only as a tiny taste. Plain unsweetened yogurt is the only version that would even make sense for parrots, but it still should be very limited.
Benefits and limitations
Plain yogurt avoids the extra sugar and flavoring found in many products, but parrots are still lactose-intolerant. That means even plain yogurt is only an occasional taste, not a useful regular food.
How to serve
- Offer a very small plain unsweetened amount only.
- Remove leftovers quickly.
- Keep it occasional.
When to avoid it
- Avoid sweetened or flavored yogurt.
- Skip it if your parrot shows digestive upset.
- Do not make it a routine part of the diet.
For parrots, plain yogurt is only marginally better, not something to rely on.
